History

It all began with the 180,000 square feet of John Galt Mall in 1973. The first expansion of 300,000 square feet and valued at $60 million was announced in 1986 by co-owners Glenarin Acres Ltd. and J.D.S. Investments. The year of 1990 brought about a new Sears Clearance Store and food court through another expansion.

John Galt Mall was then sold to Devan Properties and Hudson Bay Company Real Estate Ltd. in July of 1995. At this time, the mall was also re-named the “Cambridge Centre” and the next wave of expansion was announced. By September 1996, a newly renovated Cambridge Centre became home to a Zellers and Bay department store.

In 1997 the Cambridge Centre received its official designation as a regional mall which contributed to the addition of a 10 screen movie theatre complete with stadium seating in 1998. The most recent major expansion was completed after the Cambridge Centre was sold to the Morguard Real Estate Investment group. They added 300,000 square feet of retail space and an NHL-sized ice rink in 2002.

Overall, the Cambridge Centre has undergone renovations and expansions totalling over $100 million dollars and bringing the building area up to 700,000 square feet. Today Cambridge Centre has a whole new look and has over 140 shops and services including Sears, The Bay, Zellers, Galaxy Cinemas and an amazing year round NHL-sized ice rink!

As an integral part of the Cambridge community, Cambridge Centre has a non-profit Community Kiosk available to all charities at no charge as well as several programs such as the Great Strides Walking Club, and Konstructive Kids. In conjunction with these clubs, Guest Services is always available to assist guests with questions, stroller, walker or wheelchair lending, and gift wrapping.
